Rose, rhombic crystal, or amorphous light brown powder, relative density 3.125, insoluble in water, but soluble in dilute inorganic acid. Stable in dry air. When wet, it is easy to oxidize to form manganese trioxide. When heated, it decomposes and emits carbon dioxide.
